Have you ever thought about this before it was too
late?
I have had this happen to me one time on my way
to work before making a career change. Because the old saying is true, “out of
sight - out of mind” Fortunately, I was able to pull over to a gas station so I
got a very lucky break, because had I experienced this situation 5 minutes
later it could have changed the next few hours if not this one simple task. At
this point I am sure you are wondering what I am talking about. I am talking
about checking your spare tire pressure. You may have noticed those annoying
tire pressure lights and notifications while driving, triggered by a slight
drop in air pressure.
This is a common situation in the fall and spring, especially here in the south. According to tire experts, it only takes the outdoor temperature to have a swing of 10 degrees before it can cause a tire to lose one pound of air. Here in north Alabama, during springtime and fall, the temperatures can range anywhere from the low eighties during the day to high forties at night. During these two seasons, it is common to experience a temperature swing of 10 to 40 degrees within a single day. Less than consistent temperature swings like this each day are normal here until we have moved into the new season.
Now back to the conversation about tires, these
are the tires we use and see every day. Consider the spare tire that is stored
in the trunk or underneath the car, which often goes unnoticed. Do you
regularly verify the pressure to ensure it is properly inflated, ensuring
readiness even in unforeseen circumstances? Flat tires can happen anywhere, so
if stranded on the side of the interstate, what is your back up plan if your
spare is flat? It is important to keep this in mind and remember to check it
more frequently in the future.
